What Is a Global Email Suppression List?
Learn how a workspace-wide suppression list prevents outreach to unsubscribed, bounced or blocked contacts.
A global email suppression list is a workspace-level blocklist of recipients who must not be queued by any campaign. It protects unsubscribe choices and prevents permanently failed or manually blocked addresses from returning through another list.
Global means across campaigns
Campaign A and Campaign B may use different lists, tags or senders. If alex@example.com opts out in Campaign A, global suppression should prevent a later CSV import from enrolling that address in Campaign B.
Store the reason and timestamp where possible. Unsubscribed, hard bounce and manual block can require different investigation even though all make the contact ineligible.
Apply suppression at several points
Check on import, enrollment and immediately before send. A last-moment check prevents a queued message from ignoring a newer unsubscribe.
- Normalize email addresses before matching.
- Keep an auditable suppression reason.
- Restrict accidental removal of suppressions.
- Do not delete opt-out evidence merely to clean a list.
Separate organization from eligibility
